It was uncommon for cowboys where Joe came from to play the banjo, in fact it was uncommon for them to play any instrument at all. That didn't matter to him however; Joe was one of those people who walks his own path influenced only by his dreams. He was a colourful flame rejected by the black and white world he burned in because it could not understand him. One day Joe rode ahead as the black and white world grew darker behind him. Unsure of where he was destined he dropped the reins and directed his horse with the music of his banjo. He played for days without rest, the music nurturing him and his horse as the land changed around them. Joe learned how to communicate to nature through the sounds of his banjo. When he played to fire, it glowed brighter and danced to his music. When he played to the earth she moved and growled with pleasure. Joe could call the wind to gather clouds and craft rivers with the rain he seduced by the plucking of his banjo. All from the saddle of his horse, which walked relentlessly and eventually, down from a hill and into a town Joe had never seen before. As he approached, the town came to life with people who walked onto the streets in search of his music. He saw something he had never seen before in the eyes of these people who joyously welcomed him. They glowed with the same colour of dreams that he did, flames that lived and burned in a world of possibility and acceptance. Dismounting his horse, he played his banjo and the town celebrated. He was home.
