In German literary tradition, there’s a type of novel called the bildungsroman. A typical bildungsroman follows a hero’s trajectory from birth to adulthood, charting their scrapes with reality and confrontations with chaos, until they finally emerge – a little scratched and bruised, but holding a hard-won nugget of enlightenment. Sanoi’s new self-titled album is a bildungsroman in deep house form, tracing the artist’s growth and fall from innocence, his confrontation with reality and eventual reconciliation with the vastness of the universe.

‘A Moment in Time' the innocence of Sanoi’s younger self has all but evaporated, and we’re in a new territory of breakbeats, sinister acid lines and weighty chord progressions. The track might call to mind your first experience standing alone in a big club full of sweating strangers and earth-quaking beats. As thrilling as it is, coming of age can be a daunting experience.

SHADY - Your Skin

SHADY (Pieter De Meester and Maxim Helincks) are one half of the band Stavroz, and 2020 drove them from a frenzied international touring schedule to a period of relative quiet. While other musicians tried to capture the gravity of lockdown, SHADY used their time to cook up joyous prankster music, something refreshingly at odds with the global zeitgeist. On ‘Your Skin’, the pair channel the wonky surrealism of Connan Mockasin, the understated swagger of Nicolas Jaar’s low end, and the tomfoolery of a Mighty Boosh crimp. The song invokes a carefree future where clubs have reopened and sweaty, raving humans rub bare shoulders on a full-swing dancefloor. ‘I wanna touch your skin’, croon Helincks and De Meester in a cellophane falsetto… well, hopefully soon.

THE ODDNESS - MOMENTUM

Following on from his debut EP, ‘Breathing Fire’ on Beat & Path we welcome back The Oddness for his second EP Momentum. The last 6 months has seen this artist making waves across the world with his signature slow-burning downtempo electronica sounds infused with dub and world music all laced with his characteristic chugging basslines. With recent releases and remixes on Pipe & Pocket, Shango Records and Hidden Vibes, we are proud to present one original plus two remixes from Jamie Stevens. The original takes us on almost space-rock rollercoaster ride through organic chants and a deep, surging bassline. Following on from his debut ‘Weigh Up’ EP on Beat & Path, Jamie steps up the plate and delivers two outstanding remixes, the first being the ‘In Excess’ remix that touches on his early roots from the 3 piece live electronic group Infusion. Mechanical, almost machine-like style percussion is laid over a bass groove, all laced with an infectious 1980s INXS-style snare hit. On the second version, Jamie takes the listener on drummer’s dream ride with carefully programmed drums, shakers, tambourines and hats. We trust you will find something on this release that suits your rekordbox for any occasion.
