VEREYA - A LINE IN THE SAND

Hailing from the sublime Dandenong Ranges to the east of Melbourne, Vereya are a five-piece band with a panoramic sound. Their debut on Beat and Path, 'A Line in the Sand', is a perfect addition to the label's pluralistic discography, introducing a fresh flavour of eeriness and mystery. The A-side is an emotive piece that began as a solo piano experiment and evolved into a lush, vocal soundscape that deals with redemption, regeneration, moving forward and not looking back. Projecting the pathos of musical theatre, it manages somehow to echo Vangelis, Satie and Stephen Sondheim all at once.
The B-side comes from local micro-house artist Tim Streckfuss (aka Timmus), an experienced producer and festival stalwart (Rainbow Serpent, Subsonic, Strawberry Fields). For Timmus, Vereya's original was an unlikely source of inspiration for a pair of filmic playa anthems. On first hearing 'A Line in the Sand', he was 'absolutely blown away' by its musicality and lyrics, and took the piece as a timely gift from the universe. His remixes convey a sense of empowerment, growth and spiritual motion, bringing a touch of Stimming and the Pachanga Boys to the theatrical elements of the source material.
