Creative Story by Patrick Holmes:
The jungle boy watched as the earth rumbled in darkness. Loud vibrations shook ominously through every cell in his body as he witnessed the stars being painted in the empty sky, illuminating the scene below. A serpent carves mountains into the earth with the smooth curves of her slither. Tree's grow before his eyes only to be burnt back to the ground in an ambush of flames. New life bursts from the blackened earth in colours of green once the fires have left, growing into trees again. Loud ominous vibrations shake through every cell in his body.
His opens his eyes...
The visions began as a reoccurring dream, but have now invaded his meditation.
He wonders what they could mean while taking in his surroundings and coming back to his body. A verdant jungle surrounds him with a wild abundance of tree life reaching high and wide to capture light and enclose sweet shade with a thick luscious canopy. Continuing to sit he contemplates the feeling that his visions evoke in him. The images are unrecognizable and yet familiar like distant memories.
Uncrossing his legs, he stands and begins to walk to the lake along a path through his jungle village. As he passes the wooden pyramids that are dotted along the way, images flash across his sight like lightning.
For split seconds at a time he sees a path of red earth and tall dry grass in an expansive land. It is when he closes his eyes to protect them from a gust of wind that he realizes what is happening. The images that have been flashing across his vision appeared with every blink he took. With his eyes closed the red earth path and dry grass stays. He opens his eyes to realize that the curves of his village path line up perfectly with that of the one he can see with his eyes closed. He continues to walk toward the lake with closed eyes following and exploring the red earth path of his vision. He sees the same vast and dry landscape of his dreams only it is much calmer now. He feels and hears the same ominous vibration calling him but it is much softer and further away.
Walking he takes in the surroundings of this distant land seen only behind his eyelids. Looking down he sees what appear to be his legs only they have much darker skin. His bare feet look strong and well used, as if they have walked to the edge of earth and back. He looks up from his feet to his hands to discover he is holding a spear. Turning to his side he sees another dark skinned man wearing little clothing, also holding a spear and walking beside him.
The man looks back at him before gesturing and pointing toward the path ahead and leading the way. As they walk the sound of vibration becomes clearer and is joined with a repetitive clapping beat. Eventually the path is met by another man standing in wait at its end. Behind him three men sit playing music in front of a pile of sticks. The ominous vibration is coming out of a long hollowed piece of wood, which one of the men is breathing into. The repetitive beat is the second man with two smooth sticks, which he is clapping together. The third man is singing in an ancient sounding language a story the boy has heard before but cannot make sense of. The standing man reaches his left hand above him and his right hand below and then slowly swaps their positions. As his left hand falls, so does the sun, taking the light of day with it. As his right hand rises, so do flames from the pile of sticks, bringing the luminous glow of fire with them. During this transition white paint appears on the mans face and body, as if being applied by invisible hands. The painted man takes a few steps while he sings along to the story, and stops right in front of the jungle boy. His eyes are wide with life and bulging with wisdom. Tipping his head back slightly he opens his mouth to show the boy something. The boy leans closer and looks into his mouth to see the same images he had been seeing in his dreams. The words being sang by the sitting man start to make sense. He is singing the story of creation, explaining how everything became what it is. The boy sees the whole universe and everything that has happened in the mouth of this man. The music grows louder as more is revealed to him. Eventually he sees a big lake at the base of three erupting volcano's. He sees himself standing in this lake with his eyes closed.
